Day 16: Sun Please!

After surviving a blustery night at Devils Lake State Park we were surprisingly able to get a fairly early start.  It may have been our overwhelming appreciation of a sunny start to the day or possibly simply determination to get some miles behind us.  Our first stop of the day took us to Depoe Bay, the world's smallest working bay for the Jeopardy crowd.  The area that is supposed to be the whale watching hub of the central Oregon coast.  We were seemingly in the right place at the right time and saw some kind of beast swimming south but pictures refused to do it any justice.  The road was curvy, the scenery beautiful and took us into Newport.  We had been hearing from other cyclists along the route that we had to go to Bike Newport and check it out, so we did.  Our bikes needed some minor tweaks and while the work was underway we took a load off in the cyclists lounge, washed our very offensive dirty cloths, and Julie and Jet took a well deserved nap.  After our brief respite, it was back on the road toward Charles C. Washburn State park for the night.  Poor weather withstanding, our miles have been coming easier these days.
